 | It
was my first pregnancy in 1992 that brought me to yoga or yoga to me. The feelings
of softness, power, connectedness and wisdom echoed the feelings that pregnancy
gave me. Yoga guided me through a beautiful healthy pregnancy and an inspiring
birth. Continued practice also helped me, physically, emotionally, mentally and
spiritually through the joys and challenges of motherhood.
In 1999 I trained
as an Holistic Childbirth Educator and then in 2003 I completed a two year yoga
teacher training course with Duncan Hulin and the Devon School of Yoga. I then
started working to bring yoga to other pregnant women and these classes are still
running in Penzance and I am now working with women through their second and third
pregnancys.
My
own journey evolved through Duncan's wonderful teaching, who always encourged
me to teach from the heart. I also studied Iyengar, Ashtanga, Vini Yoga and Scaravalli
with many inspiring teachers who did not teach a particular form but had found
their own way.
For me the study of yoga is a life time pursuit and I am
always learning new benefits, but in essence it is very simple, a regular yoga
practice makes you happy and healthy and that is all most of us want. I now run
regular and private classes as well as pregnant and postnatal classes and teach
in all the local senior schools.

In my own practice and teaching I aim
to nourish, challenge, nuture and cleanse the whole body inside and out to bring
a sense of ease, strength and wellbeing. I also establish and maintain a focus
on the breath, which is our best tool for getting us out of our heads and into
our bodies.
Through the postures we learn about flexibility, balance,
strength, relaxation, softness, stamina and patience and with practice these benefits
begin to over into our everyday lives. |
Attending a yoga class ticks so many boxes, its like indulging in a massage,
a trip to the Oesteopath, an exercise class, a counselling session, a stress relieving
workshop and a confidence booster all in one. What makes yoga so empowering is
that its something you learn to do for yourself so that you can become responsible
for your own whole health.
